U.S. Army Structured Self Development SSD-1 Enrollment
Note: SSD-1 is no longer worth promotion points
As of FY2013 Soldiers cannot enroll themselves for Structured Self Development (SSD) courses. SSD is DA directed
and quota managed. Enrollments in SSD follow auto-enrollment triggers and the NCOES pre-requisite sequencing
shown in the table below.
Structured Self Development Level 1: ATRRS automatic enrollment is triggered by successful completion of One
Station Unit Training (OSUT) or Advanced Individual Training (AIT).
* Completion of SSD 1 is prerequisite for registration and attendance at Warrior Leader Course.
Warrior Leader Course: Unit schedules enrollment.
* Completion of WLC is prerequisite for Advanced Leader Course.
Advanced Leader Course: Human Resources Command schedules enrollment.
* Completion of ALC is prerequisite for Structured Self Development Level 3.
Structured Self Development Level 3: ATRRS automatic enrollment is triggered by ALC Graduation.
* Completion of SSD 3 is prerequisite Senior Leader Course attendance.
Senior Leader Course: Human Resources Command schedules enrollment.
* Completion of SLC is prerequisite for Structured Self Development Level 4.
Structured Self Development Level 4: ATRRS automatic enrollment is triggered by SLC graduation.
* Completion of SSD 4 is prerequisite for Sergeants Major Course.
Sergeants Major Course: Human Resources Command schedules enrollment.
* Completion of Sergeants Major Course is prerequisite for Structured Self Development Level 5 registration.
Structured Self Development Level 5: ATRRS automatic enrollment is triggered by SMC graduation.
Promotion Requirements Effective 1 Jan 2014
SSD-1completion required for E-4 to get onto the E-5 recommend list. Soldiers who do not have credit for the course
by 1 Jan 2014, will be automatically removed from the E-5 list as being ineligible for promotion.
SSD-3 completion required for E-6 to get onto the E-7 recommend list
SSD-4 completion is required for E-7 to get onto the E-8 recommend list
Note: These policies will apply to the Regular Army, Active Guard and Reserve, master sergeant (E-8) boards that
convene in early December 2013 and the sergeant first class (E-7) boards that convene 4 Feb 2014.
Points Reduction Effective 2 Dec 2013
SSD-1 will no longer award 16 promotion points. Soldiers who have completed SSD-1 will notice a decrease of 16
promotion points after 2 Dec 2013.
