Training
Job training for an Armament Repairer requires nine weeks of Basic Training, where you’ll learn basic Soldiering
skills, and 16 weeks and 4 days of Advanced Individual Training. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part
in the field. Some of the skills you’ll learn are:

  • Electronic and mechanical principles and concepts
  • Use of electronic, electrical and mechanical test equipment
  • Use of schematics, drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams
  • Operation, testing and maintenance of specific types of weapons systems
  • Operation and maintenance of fire control systems on ships


Advanced level Armament Repairers provide guidance, supervises and trains the other Soldiers within their same
discipline. As an advanced level Armament Repairer, you may be involved in:

Repair turret mechanisms and tank weapons
Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions
Provide technical advice and assist in assembling and disassembling the mechanisms and systems of turrets,
cupolas, tank weapons and self-propelled artillery
Troubleshoot fire control system components, towed artillery fire control systems, self-propelled artillery fire control
systems, tank fire control systems, towed artillery armament systems
Troubleshoot self-propelled artillery armament systems, fighting vehicle armament systems, tank armament systems,
small arms weapons and classifying equipment
Perform as a senior advisor and supervisor of ordnance maintenance and repair crews engaged in field and
sustainment maintenance
